White Goods – Early Christmas Presents

We seem to have had a bit of a spree on white goods lately. This might not be the most exciting of blog posts, but mentioning new purchases has proved useful in the past because when they go wrong or break down we turn to this website to see how long we’ve had them, so it’s quite a good idea to mention them here.

Tumble Drier

Our tumble drier that we got back in 2012 – we know that thanks to a blog post titled “Christmas Day” decided to stop working a few weeks ago. After checking the weblog we saw that we’d had it for a few years and it does get quite a lot of use, so after a quick attempt at repairing it we decided that it would be better just to a buy a new one. A quick look online and the model we decided to go for ended up being exactly the same as the one we had, so it was ordered and due for delivery in a couple of weeks time.

We also knew of a friend who had one for sale so we bought that for £30 just to keep us going. The new drier arrived a couple of weeks later so once again the house was turned upside down to get the temporary one out and the new one in. Once it was plugged in and fired up it was a case of deja vu – or at least it was if you had read our previous tumble drier post called “Tumble driers, electrics and parents” from 2006… In that, another exciting post about white goods, when we plugged the tumble drier in it sounded like it had a bag of spanners in it and was therefore subsequently sent back. Once again, our new tumble drier sounded like this too, so it was time to get on the phone and organise a replacement. That 2006 white goods post also went on about the house being in turmoil, which was pretty much the same this time around as well.

The replacement drier arrived on Sunday though and so far has been performing well. It certainly had some work to do after our very wet walk in the hills of Snowdonia

We also, and I don’t know why, bought ourselves a second fridge on Sunday. It was just one of those things that you do on a whim. We have a fridge-freezer in the kitchen and a second freezer in the beach room, and all of a sudden I decided that it might be useful to have a second fridge down there as well, especially over Christmas. I think it was just that I’d been tidying all morning and there were lots of things that I wanted to hide a way in cupboards – well, a fridge is just a cold cupboard isn’t it, so we ordered a new fridge as well. We didn’t even shop around, just bought one on a whim which is very unlike us. I thought it may have back-fired as well when I saw it cheaper elsewhere whilst writing this post, but it was OK as there was a £19.99 delivery charge to be added to that which meant that the one we bought was still cheaper.

Hopefully it’ll soon be here, hopefully it’ll work straight away and hopefully it’ll soon be full of Christmas goodies!
