Morning Sea Swim

I usually have a 7:15am morning swim in the pool at the University before work on a Thursday. But being unable to run means that I have no races planned, no real need to ‘train’ and therefore less motivation than usual, so when I saw that Larry was organising a 6:30am sea swim in Aberystwyth I decided to tag along with that instead.

It did mean that there was a bit of a rush to get there on time as I didn’t see that it was going ahead until about 5am, but I quickly had some breakfast, got my wetsuit and swimming kit together, packed a bag for work and headed into Aberystwyth.

I met Martin and Darren at South beach, quickly put my wetsuit on and then we walked around to the bottom of Consti where we met Larry and the four of us set off for a swim. I was a little faster than the others so would swim to a buoy and then double back to meet them so that we could all stay together. The sea was calm and is warming up nicely, it was overcast and the sea was a little less clear than it has been but it was still a nice way to start the day. It also meant that I could get to work for 8am and make sure the environmental chamber was working properly for one of the Postgrads, which in turn means that I should be able to finish early too and either go to the gym or out for a SUP session – or maybe even both!

It’s not as good training as a pool swim and less of a workout, but it has to be good for the soul!
