Making the Most of Polling Day

Morgan’s school was closed on election day so that it could be used as a polling station. This seems silly to us as I’m sure a portacabin in the park adjacent to the school would be more than sufficient for a polling station rather than closing down the whole school, but Morgan obviously wasn’t complaining.

Anna and I took the opportunity to have the day off as well and we all headed down to Pembrokeshire with a friend of Morgan’s for a day out at the Blue Lagoon waterpark. It’s a perfect opportunity to visit such an attraction as everyone else should be in school so it’s quiet and there are no queues for the slides.

I was going to cycle most of the way there and then meet the others en route, but when I got up early to do so, it was wet and miserable rather than the forecasted sunshine so I decided to pack my cycling kit and bike into the car so that I could cycle home instead. It’s a two hour or so drive to the waterpark and we got there just after 11am, paid our entry fee which isn’t too bad at £5 each and then set off into the park for our 3 hours of fun.

It was nice now that Morgan is that little bit older and had a friend with him, as we could just let them get on with it really. Anna and I did play with them for a while, swimming around the lazy river, racing them on the slides and playing in the wave pool. We then left them to it and watched them from deckchairs on the side of the pool. You get three hours in the park, which without any queues for the slides was about right. Despite a few little snacks the boys were getting hungry by then anyway, so we got changed, made it out of the turnstiles with 2 minutes to spare of our 3 hours and had some food from the poolside cafe before heading home.

It was still quite damp out and rained quite a bit on the way home so my starting point for a ride home kept getting postponed. In the end I cycled home from Aberystwyth after we had stopped off at the nursery to pick up some beekeeping equipment Anna and Morgan had left there after doing a presentation on beekeeping to the children, and then stopped again at the Uni to collect my new iPhone 5s that had been delivered there. Hopefully this new phone will last longer than the previous one.

Once at home, I quickly changed and went out for a little paddle on my new Stand Up Paddle Board, before eating some dinner, changing my bike tyres and packing my bags ready for a triathlon at the weekend. It’s a shame we all had go to work and school on Friday really as extending the weekend from the Thursday would have been nice.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, yes we did vote, we sent our postal votes off last week which saved us having to do it on the day.

Sounds fun, I’m surprised more families didn’t do the same as lots of schools were closed, we use the village hall here,
Good luck with the triathlon tomorrow
