Indoor Surfing and a New Family Addition

Another busy weekend for us, but thanks to the fact that it is soon Morgan’s birthday it was at least a long weekend.

The three of us left home early on Friday (after I’d done an even earlier hour on the turbo trainer) in order to had to the Cardiff Whitewater Centre. Morgan’s birthday treat was a high ropes course at the centre, followed by some indoor surfing on the flowrider. Typically, as we left Borth the surf was pumping, but the weather was set to take a turn for the worse, so some indoor surf action seemed quite inviting anyway.

The drive to cardiff was OK and we soon arrived at our destination. Although Anna had given me the wrong postcode and we had been following the satnav, so our destination was the wrong one! We soon reprogrammed with the correct postcode and arrived with time to spare. After some lunch we met up with Morgans cousins (Shaun, Harry, Charlie and Jack) and the five of them got ready to do the high-ropes course which weaves it’s way above the outdoor rafting and kayaking river they have at the centre.

They all seemed to enjoy the course. It isn’t huge and isn’t really high, but it was high enough for them and they all had fun.

Next up was indoor surfing and a chance to try out the flow-rider. I was joining them for this as I’d never had a go before so we all got kitted up, had some instruction and were soon playing in the water on bodyboards. It was quite easy to get the hang of and we were all doing tricks and having a good time. We didn’t get much chance to try any stand-up surfing though. I did have a couple of goes and managed to stand there for a short while, but a few more goes and I reckon I would have had the hang of it. It was all well orginased and well run. we had just over an hour in total on the flow-rider, but by then time you all take turns you don’t get a huge number of goes. It was good though – if only I could afford to have one installed in the back garden!

We then headed back to my parents house for dinner.

Saturday was spent lazing around in the morning waiting for everyone else to arrive before we had lunch and birthday cake. Anna and I then went out shopping and off to see Kia’s new house. We had already met Ryder, the latest (and very small) addition to the family the evening before, but this gave us another chance to see him and actually see him awake this time.

Sunday was the usual affair when visiting my parents. I started it early with a run and then a swim in Yate swimming pool before heading back for breakfast. We then packed and started the journey home, with a stop at the aquairum to buy some plants for my new tank and some shrimp for the older tank.

Another good weekend away, but lots of catching up to do now. We may have to have another go on the flow-rider soon though!
