A Geological Souvenir

It was International Earth Cache Day on Sunday, so as geocachers and geologists we couldn’t really not do a geological based Earth Cache to celebrate. Fortunately there was an Earth Cache that we hadn’t done at Devil’s Bridge so we saved it up and headed out there on Sunday afternoon for International Earth Cache Day 2015.

I did my usual bike and swim in the morning and then we popped up to feed the bees before driving out to Devil’s Bridge where we intended to pop into the hotel for a quick snack for lunch, hopefully a bowl of soup. When we arrived though they were only doing a carvery so guess what, yep, despite having a huge Sea Bass at home that we were having for dinner we all had a full carvery lunch too.

A Geological Earth Cache

We then found the answers to the various questions in the Earth Cache. In case you don’t know what and Earth Cache is, here’s the official description.

An EarthCache is a special geological location people can visit to learn about a unique feature of the Earth. EarthCache pages include a set of educational notes along with coordinates. Visitors to EarthCaches can see how our planet has been shaped by geological processes, how we manage its resources and how scientists gather evidence. Typically, to log an EarthCache, you will have to provide answers to questions by observing the geological location. For more information about EarthCaches visit http://www.earthcache.org/.

Unlike a traditional geocache there is no physical container to find or logbook to sign, so once we had the answers we headed back into Aberystwyth for some shopping and then headed home to log the find and claim our souvenir.
