This years summer of geocaching souvenir is a series of ‘Road Trip’ souvenirs. There are six souvenirs to collect in total, with each one becoming active at different times throughout the summer.

The Geocaching Road Trip runs between June 19th and September 2nd during which time we have to find five souvenirs to unlock a special sixth souvenir. The individual missions in our Road Trip are:

  • June 19 – Sept 2Find a geocache with 10 or more Favourite Points
  • July 3 – Sept 2Attend an Event, Mega-Event or Giga-Event
  • July 17 – Sept 2Find a T5 or D5 geocache
  • July 31 – Sept 2Find an EarthCache or attend a CITO
  • August 14 – Sept 2Find a Mystery Cache

As you can see, the first of these was released on Friday and Morgan and I had a couple of hours to kill so decided to make a start on the mission straight away. Morgan had been away in Ireland on a school trip all week so I collected him from the coach, put his bags in the car and then we went out to The Starling Cloud for dinner as a bit of a coming home treat. It sounds as though he had a good time in Ireland so I’ll se if he will write a blog post about his trip. We had a good dinner followed of course by pudding, although as usual Morgan’s eyes were too big for his belly so I ended up eating most of it for him.

We then headed off to Llanilar where we parked in then car park alongside the Ystwyth Cycle Trail and wandered down towards a cache that we knew had 17 favourite points – more than the 10 required to fulfil the mission requirements. We had originally planned to head up to Cadair Idris for this mission where there is a cache with over 50 favourite points but this one was closer and easier to get to so we decided to strike while the iron was hot and find the first of our summer souvenirs on the first day of the mission. It turned out to be only a short walk along the trail and a really easy cache to find as well. It was in a nicely camouflaged container, but one that we had seen a few times before so it wasn’t really anything special despite the number of favourite points. Still, we had found the first of our summer geocaching souvenirs.

With such a quick and easy find we had plenty of time to wander down to the river bank and skim stones for an hour or so before heading off to take the Scouts on a woodland crafts evening. Next we need to find a suitable event to attend for the ‘Meet Your Road Trip Crew’ souvenir.

I’ll look out for Morgan’s blog
You certainly didn’t give him time relax then after his trip! Bless him

Good going Al. Was that a cache you had already found? The Piratemania Event is on Bakewell Showground this year. Why not bring Morgan along it’s great fun 🙂
The oher option is for Abercachers to arrange an event. I have been thinking for a while it would be good to meet up with some of the new cachers who are placing around here.
    What do you reckon?

No, it was a new cache for us – don’t think it would count if re-logging a previously found cache!

I’m hoping someone around here will arrange an event for the ‘Summer Souvenir’ – so go for it!! 🙂
