EFB Disease Alert

Just as we thought the bees in our out apiary were doing well, we get this EFB Disease alert from the National Bee Unit.

EFB-Alert

The bees and survived well over the winter and we were pleased with the fact that we had been able to split them early to hopefully pre-empt any swarming. They have loads of brood, hopefully the split will be raising a new queen and all was looking good. Now we have to be on high alert for European Foul Brood (EFB) though. Those poor bees, if it’s not one thing, it’s another.

Oh well, no one ever said this beekeeping malarky would be easy.

We’ve had the all clear as far as EFB is concerned with the bees at the bottom of the garden. The inspector will take a look at the bees in our out apiary soon too.

What a shame. Fingers crossed your bees manage to escape.
