Velodrome Training for JOGLE

I’m going to be cycling from John O’Groats to Land’s End (JOGLE) later in the year raising money for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Limited.. You can sponsor me here. I’ll be writing more about it over the coming weeks once I’ve had chance to take a proper look at the route myself and start working out how to train for it.

My brother is doing most of the organising and has planned the route, so I’m not 100% sure where we are going yet, but as I’ve never done it before it should be quite a challenge. In fact, the most I have cycled in a single day over the past 20 years or so is around 80 miles and that was quite tough. 100 mile days will be difficult, especially back to back ones over the course of 10 days. I’m certainly going to need to find some nice comfortable cycling shorts before we start.

I have a few months before we set off though so hopefully will be able to fit in a few longer rides during that time to start preparing for it. It’ll be good to do (assuming I can complete it) and it’s a good chance to raise some money for a good cause too so hopefully lots of people will support us.

In the meantime, the best I can manage today is some ‘virtual velodrome training’ courtesy of Morgan’s Scalextric Velodrome race set that he got for his birthday… Somehow I don’t think it will help!

Scalextric Velodrome training, why didn’t I think of that. I wonder how many times you’d need to go around that to cover the same distance as JoGLE? Answers this week please Al.
