Triathlon Training Focus

I’ve just survived two weeks of very poor triathlon training. The first was due to a taper week for a race during which time I was suffering with sciatica issues and therefore did no training, the second week was due to some sort of lurgy and a calf injury following my race at the British Championships.

I’m not completely over any of these issues, but with another race looming in less than four weeks time, it was time to get up off the sofa and get back out training again. Time for a little bit of focus in my life and more importantly some focus in my training and triathlon preparation. That means I need to put in a solid block of training geared mainly towards speed work over the next few weeks, but I need to do it in such a way that it allows me to recover from the lurgy and doesn’t aggravate my sciatica or calf issues. It also means I need to focus on my diet as I need to lose 5kg over the next three weeks. And of course I need todo all of this without losing any of my power output.

It’s not going to be easy, but these things never are. If it was easy then it wouldn’t be a challenge I suppose.

I did manage to do something today. Not a lot as I’m still quite snotty, coughy and chesty and I can’t run because of my calf injury. So, I headed to the pool for an hour of swimming and aquajogging. Not much for me in comparison to usual, but I don’t want to overdo it whilst not 100% and hopefully it will kick start a few weeks of proper focussed training and preparation for the European Championships.
