Last Night’s Moths

The weather is nice at the moment so after a nice geocache walk with first the beavers and Cubs, and then the Scouts last night we put the moth trap out. We aren’t getting huge number of moths at the moment, but I have a feeling that the bulb in the trap could do with replacing and the fact that the trap now has to compete with our garden lighting may limit the numbers somewhat. Although, the garden lights are only on for a couple of hours so it shouldn’t make that much difference.

Anyway, we had 24 moths in the trap this morning from 16 different species

  • 1x Buff Tip
  • 1x Shuttle-shaped Dart
  • 1x Drinker
  • 2x Elephant Hawkmoth
  • 1x Flame Shoulder
  • 5x Heart and Dart
  • 2x Shoulder-striped Wainscot
  • 1x Dark Arches
  • 1x White Ermine
  • 2x Buff Ermine
  • 1x Tawny Shears
  • 1x Oligia sp.
  • 1x Green Carpet
  • 1x Brussels Lace
  • 1x Small Magpie
  • 2x Grey Pug

We don’t see Brussels Lace very often and it was good to see some old favourites such as the Elephant Hawkmoth and the Buff Arches.
