Windsurfing Returns

Hooray, I finally managed to get out on the water windsurfing over the weekend. Usually its just the lack of wind that prevents me from windsurfing but lately with big races such as the European Triathlon Championships looming it has been a combination of lack of wind, lack of time and the fear of injury that has kept me land-bound.

All the swimming, biking and running in preparation for the race takes its toll both time-wise and energy-wise so I just haven’t been windsurfing at all. Now that the race is over and was a success though I finally got out on the water again at the weekend. First on Saturday in a howling SW and then on Sunday with Steve when the wind had swung around to the NW. It was good to see Steve as well, complete with new fell-running girlfriend!

I haven’t forgotten how to do it though and once rigged up and on the water with my 4.5m sail and little wave board I was soon jumping and gybing as if I’d been windsurfing every day. It didn’t feel at all like June though especially on Sunday when it was pretty cold and pouring with rain and felt more like November. The conditions were pretty full on as well just as if it were a proper autumn storm. I’m now looking forward to some nice sunny days on the water with moderate NW sea breezes, We used to get days like that all summer long, but they have been few and far between over the past few years.
