Moths and Fireworks

We put the moth trap out last night and then had a nice surprise as there were fireworks at the caravan park so we stood in the garden watching the fireworks whilst moths flew around the trap and bats swooped by to eat them. It was a lovely evening out there, if a little chilly now, although temperatures only dropped to 13.4°C overnight so it wasn’t that cold.

We therefore had a nice little haul of moths in the trap this morning. The full list is was as follows:

  • 1x Square-spot Rustic
  • 1x Gold Spot
  • 2x Lime-speck Pug
  • 19x Flame Shoulder
  • 1x Brimstone Moth
  • 6x Flounced Rustic
  • 22x Large Yellow Underwing
  • 1x Dark Arches
  • 4x Small Square Spot
  • 4x Common Rustic / Lesser Common Rustic agg.
  • 1x Double-striped Pug
  • 1x Tawny Speckled Pug
  • 3x Silver Y
  • 1x Small Phoenix*
  • 1x Spectacle
  • 2x White-line Dart
  • 1x July Highflyer
  • 1x Small Wainscot*
  • 1x Antler Moth
  • 1x Smoky Wainscot
  • 1x Rosy Rustic
  • 1x Common Quaker
  • 1x Currant Pug*

The Currant Pug, Small Phoenix and Small Wainscot were new garden records, but I didn’t take a photo of the Small Wainscot as I was sure we’d had one of these before – Checking my records I was mistaken and it was indeed a new garden record. I shall have to make sure I take a photo of the next one we get.
