First Time Fishing at Ynyslas

Another busy Sunday for us but a good day again.

I started with my usual run and swim in Machynlleth. Both were just a little longer than last week with 12x 90 second effort on the run rather than 10 and 24x 100m in the pool with every 3rd one hard rather than 20x 100m with every 4th hard. Yep, once again I’d earned my bacon sandwich and coffee in the cafe afterwards by the time I had finished.

I then met the others (Anna, Morgan, My Mum and Dad and Anna’s Mum) in the market at Tred Ddol. We’d never been to it before but it always looks busy when I pass it on Sunday mornings so we thought it would be worth a look. It wasn’t great really, loads of tat for sale from the car boot stalls and not that many proper market stalls but we managed to spend some money anyway. Anna’s Mum  bought me a Japanese Anemone for the garden, we bought some cleaning products, Morgan had a go on a trampoline contraption and we also bought Morgan his first ever fishing rod and reel, along with a few floats, weights, hooks and a spinner.

We then headed of to Ta Med on the university campus for our roast Sunday lunch. A large plate of roast turkey for me with all the trimmings which was nice, followed by a lovely rice pudding and coffee. Once back at home, Morgan, my Dad and I headed over to the Leri to try out Morgan’s new fishing rod. We’re not sure of the best places or best times to fish yet but we just wanted to give Morgan a go. Needless to ay we didn’t catch any fish, although Morgan did catch a few mussels!

Fishing

So, we have a few questions for you fishermen (and women) now.

  • Where are the best places to fish in the Borth and Ynyslas area?
  • What are the best times to go fishing.
  • What are the best tides for fishing in Borth and Ynyslas?
  • What bait should we use?
  • Any other fishing tips for Borth and Ynyslas?
  • What are the regulations for fishing in Borth and Ynyslas as far as licenses etc. are concerned?

After the fishing, I baked a cake ready for Anna’s birthday tomorrow, but went a little over the top with the quantity in the baking tin which led to a small disaster, but I shall fix it somehow! We then had dinner and a family game of rummikub.
