Geocaching at Rother Valley Country Park

I’ve recently returned from a very successful weekend at the Rother Valley Triathlon Festival. I’ve written a full Rother Valley Triathlon Race Report elsewhere, but being the organised type I like to arrive at such places early just to get a feel for them and so that I don’t need to rush. The race was on Sunday and I arrived Friday evening so I had all day Saturday to check out the course, register and relax.

Anna and Morgan weren’t with me as they had stayed at home with Anna’s Mum and had to deal with a dead guinea pig as well. It was a shame they couldn’t be with me as the Rother Valley Country Park itself was lovely, as was the weather.

I’d never been to this part of the country before and after a long drive which included a nice route through and over the Peak District National Park I stayed overnight in a very comfortable and affordable Premier Inn. It had been booked for all three of us so I had plenty of space to myself.

On the Saturday I found myself with time to kill in Rother Valley Country Park. There are quite a few geocaches here so I set off in search of some of them. I only did a few as the sun was blazing and I didn’t have any sunscreen and my leg was a little sore so I needed to rest prior to the race. As usual the caches took me on a nice little walk from where I saw views that I wouldn’t otherwise have seen.

I even bumped into the cache owner of one of the caches who was out for a run up the hill. I could have done plenty more caches in the area, but I’m not really chasing the numbers, its just nice to tick off a few from somewhere different and a chance to see things you wouldn’t normally see. Here’s the view from one of the caches.
