Flight+ Review – Flight Tracking app for iPad

Not being a seasoned traveller I’ve never had the need for any flight tracking apps on my iPad but with an impending trip to New Zealand on the horizon I thought I’d check some out and ended up using Flight+, a really clever app designed to track and manage flights all around the world.

It’s really easy to use and has many many features. Finding your flights is easy. Just click the little plus sign, enter your departure and destination airports and the date and up pops all of the flights available. I tired it with ours and there they were, complete with airport information, times, terminal info, gate numbers, flight duration and distance and even the weather and local time at the two locations.

On top of this basic functionality it has information on the airplane, alerts that you can set for the flight and even somewhere to write notes. You can store your flights for future reference as well.

Here’s a screenshot of a flight leaving today from London to New York.

If you wish you can drill down further to get information about any of the airports. This includes some history and basic details the current time and weather. More useful though are the terminal maps and the flight board. The latter if which shows a complete, live flight biard as displayed on the screens in the ariport. Here’s a screenshot of the latest flight board from Heathrow.

You can also view information about the airline. Again this includes some company history and basic details along with some stats, their twitter feed and a flight board and flight map. Here’s a screenshot of the British Airways Flight Map.

I’m not sure how useful it will be for me, but for a regular traveller with lots of flight books I’d imagine that such an app would be indispensable. For me it’s just a bit of fun, but it is well designed, looks lovely, easy to use and has all the information you could need for any flight in the world. I like it!!
