Moths in the Garden

As usual when writing a blog post about moth trapping I shall start it with a confession that the trap hasn’t been out for a very long time again and then make excuses about the weather. It really has been terrible this year and the trap hasn’t been out for fear of it getting blown away or washed away by floods.

We do however appear to finally be having a few brief days of summer so I put the trap out last night. Winds were light, temperatures dropped to 8.2°C and we were greeted not only with a gorgeous summers morning but also a small haul of moths. Here’s the catch.

  • 1x Green Carpet
  • 1x Setaceous Hebrew Character
  • 1x Shoulder-striped Wainscot
  • 1x Broom Moth
  • 2x Flame
  • 6x Heart and Dart
  • 2x Dark Arches
  • 1x Flame Shoulder
  • x1 Purple Bar
  • 1x Gallium Carpet*
  • 1x Oligia sp.
  • 1x Dusky Brocade

The Gallium Carpet was a new garden record. Here are a few of them.
