Good Friday Kite Flying

After a week or so of glorious weather, sun tans, shorts and busy bee-keeping, a sudden plunge back into temperatures below freezing, icy winds and snow on the hills just in time for the school holidays was a bit of a shock. Needless to say, this coupled with the fact that I was ill meant that we didn’t get out much for the first few days of the holidays.

We did venture over to the beach on Good Friday though and had a little play with the kites. Morgan had fun flying his kite, although there wasn’t really enough wind for him to get going on the mountain board. I also flew my 4.9m Blade which hasn’t really been flown for years, probably at least 7 years in fact. There was enough power with that for me to whizz up and down the beach on the mountain board. Unfortunately the sand was really rippled and bumpy and pretty wet so the conditions weren’t ideal, but I hadn’t forgotten how to do it and it was actually pretty good fun.

Anna sat on the beach and took a few photos, while I helped Morgan with his kite, and then made him hold onto my waist as we got dragged across the beach by it. It wasn’t warm, it wasn’t sunny, coats, hats and gloves were the order of the day but at least we had fun on the beach.
