Tors and Ponies
No trip to Dartmoor would be complete without a stop to say hello to the ponies and a climb up the occasional Tor.

We therefore made our trip last week complete by doing both. There were ponies everywhere so stopping for a quick ‘hello’ was easy. There were also plenty of tors that looked inviting, but Morgan isn’t too keen on long walks and with torn ligaments in my ankle I probably shouldn’t walk too far either so we plumped for a couple of easy tors.
On the way back from Buckfast Abbey whilst heading to Hexworthy, Morgan and I stopped off at Combestone Tor (whilst Anna slept in the car!). Then, on our last day we all stopped at the impressive Hay Tor and walked up to it. Morgan and I climbed to the top for some amazing views whilst Anna waited sensibly at the bottom. We did of course enter geology mode for a little while telling Morgan about batholiths, cooling magma, granite, Quartz, Feldspars, Mica and phenocrysts. He was sort of interested!
