Springwatch Webcams at Ynyshir

Springwatch starts tonight on the BBC. As mentioned elsewhere in this blog, this year (and for the next couple of years at least) they are coming live from Ynyshir RSPB Nature reserve in the Dyfi Valley, just up the road from us here in West Wales. It’s the perfect place for them with stunning scenery, plenty of wildlife and lots of different habitats for them to explore. Mind you they might not get the best of internet connections and mobile coverage but they seem to have that sorted having spent the last few weeks setting up a village of technology complete with studio for the presenters, over 40 miles of fibre optic cabling and cameras galore around the reserve.

They are all set and ready to go and have some excellent lives webcams set up where you can watch images direct and live from the nests of barn owls, herons, oystercatchers, buzzards and more.  I’ve just been taking a look at them on this cold, wet, grey Bank Holiday Monday morning and have to say that I think the barn owls have got the right idea tucked up in the dry, cosy barn. The others all look decidely miserable and more than a bit damp this morning. Here’s a screen shot of the Grey Herons on their nest which pretty much sums up a typical Welsh Bank Holiday morning.
