Running at Race Pace

I don’t know about Anna’s walking the world, but I’ve been trying to do a bit more running lately.

I still don’t do much, but rather than getting out once a week I’ve been trying to increase this to 2-3 times per week. Trouble is I seem to be getting slower each tim I go out and my average pace has been dropping off. It’s all a little demoralising really so today after an hour on the Turbo Trainer I decided that a hard, fast but short run was in order.

The route was just a single lap around the ‘Boat Yard Loop’ in Ynyslas. From home I run down to the estuary, along the sand to the boat yard, through puddles on the boat yard track and then out onto the road, up over the small rise past Ynyslas Garden, back down into Ynyslas and then along the road and back home. It’s only a 2.5 mile loop and fairly flat too, but it meant that I could go at it pretty hard and see what I could do.

The good news is that I broke my personal best for the course, putting in a time of 16:34, that’s a not too shabby average pace of 6mins 33 secs per mile. Not fast in the grand scheme of things, but not too bad for me. Now all I have to do is work on keeping that up for twice the distance or more!
