Coed y Brenin
Saturday was an absolutely glorious autumn day. I did manage to spend some time outdoors, doing some gardening and maintenance on the water feature, but also spent a few hours indoors at the ABKA Honey Show. I was therefore dying to get out in the sunshine and ride my bike so decided to go to Coed y Brenin on Sunday.
I swam in Machynlleth at 9am so was already partway there, so after a coffee and bacon sandwich drove up to Coed y Brenin. I wanted to check out the new Minotaur Trail to see if it was suitable for Anna and Morgan so headed off on that first. It’ll be fine for them, and in fact anyone else for that matter. The surface is smooth, the trail itself fairly wide and there are no steep parts. There are some really nice, easy berms to play on though and the odd mini-drop that will be fun for Morgan. In fact it’ll be the perfect place to give him some instruction on how to ride such features perfectly so that he can transfer those skills to the more advanced trails.
At the moment the Minotaur Trail is only very short but they are working on more sections by the looks of it.
I then headed off to do the MBR Trail. Unfortunately, Saturdays sunshine had been replaced by pouring rain early in the morning and low cloud hung over the hills and forests of Coed y Brenin all day. The trails were wet and slippery and I was cycling through light drizzle most of the day. I rode most of the MBR Trail but after the Pink Heiffer section changed to the Dragonsback Trail and rode that meaning I covered 26 miles in total and rode most of the sections on this side of the forest.
There were plenty of people out on the trails, but I spent all day riding alone. I overtook a number of large groups and the odd individual here and there but left them all behind and never had anyone else to ride with. I therefore kept up a steady pace and just kept going, hopefully burning off some of the previous days Honey Cake excess in the process.
