Cadair Idris Birthday Walk

As part of Emma’s 30th birthday celebrations and to burn off some of the calories from the previous evenings meal we all headed off for a walk up Cadair Idris on Sunday.

There were about 12 of us in total. We started from the Minfford car park and headed up the steps and on to Llyn Cau. Part of the lake was frozen solid and it looked pretty amazing with the walls of Cadair reflecting in the glossy ice.

A couple of the party turned back here, but the rest of us continued on up the Minfford path towards the summit. We stopped partway up for lunch and then headed into the clouds and on to the summit. We stopped in the shelter here for another lunch and then headed out of the clouds and onto Mynydd Moel. Once here, we looked back to see the clouds clear briefly from the summit and the amazing views down to the Mawddach estuary to the north and on to the Lleyn Peninsula and Bardsey Island open up. It was only short-lived though as the clouds soon closed back in.

We headed straight down from here and back to the car park. A great day out, Cadair is as spectacular as ever and the company was good too.
