Bad First Aid

When Simon the windsurfer turned up on the door step with blood gushing from a wound on his head I was fairly ashamed that all I could find to stem the flow of blood was a bit of old tracksuit trousers from the rag bag under the sink! They were clean but not really ideal!

Once Al arrived home I figured we’d be OK. He is much better organised when it comes to first aid and as long as I’ve known him has a first aid kit to hand. Turned out though that the first aid kit has been pretty much untouched in the time I’ve known him and when he produced it in Simon’s hour of need we decided the tracksuit trousers rag was preferable to the mouldy bandages Alan produced from his damp and mouldy first aid kit!

To be fair how often do you actually get your first aid kit out and check that all the contents are in tip top condition, not to mention within their best before date. Al’s first aid kit is pretty well used and probably goes out cycling with him a couple of times a week – a perfect opportunities for it to get slightly wet and then sit around to go mouldy. I doubt anyone out cycling would thank him for his offer of first aid once they’d seen the state of the contents…..Al, you should be ashamed.

I’m happy to report that we have now restocked the house and outdoor first aid kits with nice new, clean and not mouldy bandages, gloves, plasters and all the other essentials so it’s safe to come and see us or go out cycling with Al again!…Although I’m sure we’d all be happier if we didn’t need to use the contents of either!
