Camping on Dartmoor

After a weekend at Newnham Park near Plymouth for the Bontrager 24/12 2011 MTB event, Anna, Morgan and I packed up our tent and headed off to Dartmoor for our annual family holiday. The plan was to camp for a few nights on the edge of Dartmoor and explore some places that I used to visit as a child.

We had booked into Langstone Manor Campsite, so after a drive across the moors with a stop in Princetown and a visit to the Tourist Information Centre there we rolled into the campsite and set up. The site itself was in a lovely spot and cost £20 per night for the pitch. About average for a camping pitch these days, but that works out to be £600 per month which is more than renting a family house! The pitch was just about big enough for our tent and we could just squeeze the car on as well. The site soon filled up and felt a little cramped towards the end of our few days there, but we didn’t spend much time on the campsite as we were out exploring most of the time.

I’ll post separately about the places we went, but we spent a day in Plymouth, a day in Buckfast, a day driving across the moor and we went swimming in the River Dart at Hexworthy a couple of times. All in all it was a lovely holiday, we were lucky with the weather – especially seeing as we were under canvas – and very little has changed since I was there as a child!

We even had cream teas for breakfast!
