You Can Teach an Old Dog New Tricks

It may have been my 40th birthday at the weekend, but I’ve just got back from the first windsurf session of my 40’s and I’ve just got back from landing my first ever push loop!

Better still, Tom was on the water too and saw it so I did actually do it and wasn’t imagining things in my old age. He seemed pretty impressed by it as well.

Even better is the fact that I had my GoPro Camera on the boom recording my every movement so I have it on film too. Trouble it is isn’t that clear that I actually landed it because the shock of it meant that I forgot to carry on windsurfing and just fell in immediately afterward. The actual spin happened so quickly that I just wasn’t expecting to find myself back up the right way quite so quickly. I launched off the wave threw my head back and expected a big crash, but the next thing I know is that I’m back up the right way with my feet down, my head up water under my board and a dry sail. I just kind of looked at my feet amazed and fell in backwards.

So, I didn’t sail away from it by any stretch of the imagination and the video footage doesn’t even look as though I landed it, but I did and I know I did. I was the right way up and almost composed for a split second before losing my composure in amazement and falling in. STOKED!!! So here’s the moment that Xmas came early for me and an old dog learned a new trick… In glorious Slow-mo!
