New Bike or no New Bike?

The question is, should I spend lots of money on a new road bike or should I not earn that money in the first place by working less and spend the time training instead?

What would be the most beneficial, faster times due to a better bike, or faster times because I’ve spent more time training?

To be honest, I think I’ll have to go for the new bike and here are three good reasons why:

  1. If there’s a chance for some new toys then you have to take it – “He who dies with the most toys wins!”.
  2. There’s only so much training that my (not so young) body can take and if I do too much I’ll start getting problems with my knees and back.
  3. It’s easier. Training is hard work, saving time by buying a new bike is much easier!

I wonder how much difference it will make though.

A new bike is for life, good legs are temporary!

I thought about a new chaindrive ratio to make hills easier.then confused myself that much with triples, doubles, compacts, 48T or 52T that I’ve decided on a new sadle and stem and working on my technique.

That’s one of the reasons I could do with a new bike… My smallest (easiest) gear ratio at the moment is a 42×21 which isn’t really suitable for grinding up the long hills around here. Almost all bikes you buy these days come with much easier gearing.

Also, my current road bike is running on tubular tyres so if I get a puncture I’m stuffed. Lots of reasons to get a new one.
