Last nights moths

Yes, yet another post about moths… Well, things are hotting up in the moth world and I’m off to a moth workshop in Borth today so I’m enjoying my moth trapping at the moment. Don’t worry, I’m out on my MTb tomorrow and then on holiday for a week so you’ll get something different soon!

As part of the workshop in Borth, a moth trap was placed in the ground of the Youth Hostel in Borth, just a mile or so from here so I thought I’d put our trap out last night as well so that I can compare catches. As soon as I put the trap out it started raining, but that eased off in the night and with mild temperatures (down to 6.9ºC), light winds and a damp cloudy night, the catch was good. The best so far this year in fact. It also included a few that are were new to me.

  • Shoulder Stripe x20
  • Early Grey x3
  • Engrailed* x1
  • Early Thorn* x1
  • Hebrew Character x1
  • Mottled Grey x2
  • Chestnut x1
  • March Moth* x1

* = First record for our garden.

Here are the new ones.
