GoPro MTB video from Nant yr Arian

I thought I’d get out for a MTB ride yesterday as I have no time for a night ride this week what with school Christmas Concerts, Beekeeping course and such like. On top of which there is supposed to be more wintery weather on the way so access to the MTB trail in the hills may be a little restricted again soon.

I headed up to Pendam and did the Pendam Trail. I went around a couple of times and playing with my new GoPro Camera as I did. I tired out various different mounts, including a couple of sections with it on my helmet using the vented helmet strap mount. I then moved it to my bars using the bar mount and finally attached it to my stem.

All of the footage came out well. I didn’t really like the helmet mount too much. It is quite heavy on your head and feels a little too likely to get hit by low hanging trees etc. Also it moves around a little more, but most importantly it is difficult to operate from there. The bar and stem mounts were very similar and both work well. The bar mount is probably the best. It puts the samera in a nice safe and easy to operate place and gives a good view of the trail. The fairly low angle of view also gives a good impression of speed which is nice.

I then spent the afternoon cleaning my bike and then paying around in iMovie putting all the clips together. The final result was a 10 minute movie of all the best bits of the Pendam Trail. It looks good and sounds good here, but iTunes stripped out the sound track as it used copyrighted music, so I used their AudioSwap feature to add some pre-licensed music to it instead.

There’s just one problem with all this video – Actually two:
1. I’m going to need more hard drives just to store it all.
2. I’m not sure what to do with it when it comes to publishing the book of our weblog.
