Day out on Cadair Idris
It was our wedding anniversary yesterday so we bundled Morgan off to school and arranged for him to go home with a friend, took the day off work and had a day out together.
Lunch stop on Cadair Idris
We had planed to walk up Cadair Idris in the sunshine but typically the day started off with pouring rain. It look as though it would clear though so we decided to go anyway. Anna had never walked up Cadair Idris before and hadn’t been walking for a while so was feeling a little unfit. She didn’t seem to ‘enjoy’ the walk up the steps to start with, but once the path leveled off a bit towards Llyn Cau she seemed a little happier.
It did rain on and off on the way up and when we stopped for lunch at the lake. There wasn’t going to be much of a view from the top and I don’t think Anna really fancied slogging all the way to the summit so we sat by the lake for a bit and wandered around. I played with my new camera and used its panoramic feature to take a view of the lake. The results aren’t amazing, but it still impresses me the way it stitches it altogether within the camera!

As you can see it was pretty misty and murky higher up. Nothing unusual for Cadair Idris then!
We then turned back and took a gentle walk back down, just as the sun started to come out. Once back at the car and changed we headed off to the hotel on Tal-y-Llyn for a cream tea before heading home and looking forward to a chinese take-away for dinner so that we didn’t have to cook.
Not the most romantic of days but it was nice to be able to spend some time together. I wonder what we’ll do next year?

That’s a C130J Herculese. Tal y Llyn is on the corner of the Mach Loop. One of the busiest stretches of low level flying one-way system in the UK. It goes from Mach, up to Cross Foxes, and back down to Mach via Tal-y-llyn. Here’s a few snaps I’ve taken whilst sitting up there with a big lens waiting for them to pass:

Nice one Dan… I only had my little compact out at the time.. Should have got my SLR and big 400mm lens out really I suppose!.. But then I’m no ‘plane-spotter’ so it didn’t really occur to me! 🙂
Although, with the amount of low level flying around here, maybe it should be a new ‘sport’ for me!!

Glad you had a nice day Al. I know exactly how Anna felt, I did the Minfford path and it nearly killed me. Once it levelled out I was quite happy. It was November though and very frosty at the lake so we decided not to do the summit. I still want to go back though! The Pony Path is much easier, on the north side. (And there are three caches to bag too 🙂 )
@Red Kite: I think the Minfordd Path is my favourite though and from the Summit I normally walk around to Mynydd Moel and down the path from there to make a nice loop.
Mind you the route up Cyfrwy Arete is nice too, if you have a rope and a few bits of climbing gear!
Hehe you and I must have been viewing those amazing photos at the same time. Awesome!! We were on Ogwen and one skimmed around the mountain on the opposite side of the valley. If we had been on that side I would have seen the colour of fear! 😉

I’ve since sold my big lens and would prefer to get out on the bike and if I see something, all the better. It’s a little tiresome sitting on a hillside for a whole day in the hope of seeing something.
You have a point there Dan… Wouldn’t want to sit around all day, but the shots are amazing. Some of them look as though you’re flying alongside in a jet a few feet away from them!
