Summer’s Here – for a day or two!

I love this time of year, a nice mini heat-wave in spring. The weather station nearly hit 25ºC yesterday.
The plants are all growing well in the garden, we can wear shorts, go barefoot and eat dinner on the deck, the birds are singing and the wind is blowing.

Today and yesterday I managed a morning windsurf session in the estuary. Ivor was up to his tricks providing perfect conditions and the warmer weather means less neoprene and a feeling of freedom. Rather than the usual winter conditions with lots of neoprene and conditions that encourage you to stay on the board, I felt like a new man, able to try tricks I hadn’t tried throughout the winter and generally enjoy the whole session more. I didn’t actual make any of the tricks, but going for them was fun and falling in was refreshing rather than hypothermia inducing!

Even better, when I got off the water there wasn’t the usual mad rush to get packed up, get home and jump in the shower to warm up. Instead I got changed on the beach and packed up in a leisurely fashion allowing my kit to dry out a bit and chatting to the others on the beach enticed out by the warm weather.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the winter too, but it is nice to feel warm whilst on the water.
