A very Welsh Week

The Rough Guide to Wales (Rough Guide Travel Guides)Today I came across a weblog entry from a family in Suffolk who have just had a holiday in Wales. So what? Loads of people holiday in Wales! Well, they do, but not as many as used to. Holidays to France, Spain, Portugal or even further afield can often be less expensive than a good old fashioned British holiday. The weather in foreign locations is often more predictable and alomost always nicer, and a holiday to Wales just doesn’t seem to cut it anymore when trying to ‘keep up with the Jones’s’.

Its a shame really as Wales, and many places in the UK have so much to offer, especially for families. There is so much to see and do and if the weather holds out it really can be a spectacular place. Of course, if the weather takes a turn for the worse then, yes, the whole holiday can turn into a ‘character building exercise’ but there’s nothing wrong with that either.

France, Spain and Portugal aren’t as fashionable as they used to be. Nowadays you have to go to Mauritius, the Maldives or some equally far flung place to ‘really’ have a holiday , but maybe British holidays will become the new place to go again, after all they also have the added benefit of being more environmentally friendly. We all try to do our bit for the environment, recycling, energy saving bulbs, driving less etc etc but no doubt that one long haul flight to your holiday destination negates all the good we do throughout the rest of the year… Come on, give up your exotic holiday and come to Wales!

    Hi Alan,

Thank you for the comments and link to my blog post. We had a great time on our holiday on the Lleyn Peninsula. We try to get there once a year at least.

Haven’t been to your part of Wales at all so I have no idea what is there. In four weeks time I will be walking the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path which I’m really looking forward to.

No problem Mark.. Feel free to link back here if you wish!

The reason I liked your blog was that you just seem to ‘Get it’ if you know what I mean.

    Al.
